Primary School Teacher Training
In November 2015, St. John’s C of E Primary School was accredited as a provider of initial teacher training, operating under the name of West Essex SCITT.
St John’s C of E Primary, Buckhurst Hill, and Burnt Mill Academy, Harlow, act as hub schools for the School Direct Training Programme and, with alliance schools, will be recruiting trainees for 2018/2019 from October 2017. Trainees are recruited and placed in other primary schools across Epping Forest and Harlow.
The School Direct Training Programme that runs at St. John’s is accredited by The West Essex SCITT. The training programme is a school led route that leads to an award of QTS to successful trainees.
UEL will accredit the School Direct training programme that runs through Burnt Mill.

Routes and recruitment
School Direct offers two routes into School based Initial Teacher Training. The first is a salaried route. This is an employment-based route for high quality graduates with three or more years’ career experience, although this depends on location and experience in the classroom. The trainee will be employed as an unqualified teacher for the duration of their training and receive a salary.
There are unsalaried places at Primary level and these are available for graduates with little or no work experience, although currently these come with no bursary
We invite all applicants, both salaried and unsalaried, to conduct a 20 minute task with a small group of pupils, which is then followed up by an interview.
